Our students have amazing opportunities to be the creators of tomorrow, but their incredible coding skills don't always indicate an understanding of the ethics and responsibilities of being a creator. It is essential that our computer science students have a strong foundation of digital citizenship including an awareness of their own bias, privacy basics, and the social and emotional skills that make them aware of themselves and their community.

Co-founder of Equity in Action CA, Sue began working for Common Sense in 2011 by providing support and training for educators and administrators on issues of digital culture and technology implementation. As a co-founder of Equity in Action CA, she has facilitated conferences that recognize the importance of culture and identity and strive to amplify marginalized voices in the education technology space. Prior to Common Sense, Sue was a researcher and educator. Sue holds a master's degree in public health and an undergraduate degree in zoology and chemistry.

Dr. Sharisa Chan is a STEAM and computer science advocate, micro:bit Champion, SCALE-CA member, equity warrior, and veteran K-12 grade educator. Sharisa has been able to make connections with staff and students, especially in the domains of student engagement, personalized learning, digital citizenship, STEAM integration, computer science, as well as the use and leverage of digital technology to improve student learning outcomes through personalized and equitable classroom pedagogies.
